Land registration new anti-counterfeiting owners

The scams on property have occurred in recent years. The Secretary for Development, Mr Wong Wai-lun, published a blog yesterday. The Land Registry has recently optimised its e-Alert service and launched the “Property Estates” to enable owners to grasp their property status in a simple manner. After ordering, pay 580 yuan to enjoy the service until the property is transferred.

Huang Weilun pointed out in the blog that home ownership may be the most important investment in the life of the public. However, in recent years, there have been fraudsters who faked owners and used fake deeds to defraud financial companies from mortgage loans. Some swindlers also used the names of owners to claim from real estate companies. To sell the unit, it will disappear after defrauding the deposit.

In order to assist owners in protecting property rights, land registration was launched in July 2015. An electronic reminder service was launched. If the owner subscribes to the service, he will submit the documents affecting his property to the Land Registry for registration and the registration of the relevant documents will be completed. After that, the department will send a reminder email to the owner. The e-Alert Service has been further optimized and renamed “Property Locking”.

In addition to the 24-hour “Property to Trade” service, the owners are now offering a one-off subscription method, that is, paying $580 to enjoy the service until the property is transferred. During the period, whenever there is a paperwork involving the property, The Land Registry is registered and an email reminder will be sent to the owner. The owner can know the nature of the instrument, the date of the instrument, the date of delivery and the serial number of the registration from the email notification.

The Director of Land Registry, Mr Cheung Mei-chu, said that “Property will be suitable for all those who own Hong Kong properties, especially those who are often overseas or rent out their properties. If the property is sold or mortgaged without the owner’s knowledge, the reminder service will allow Owners are aware of differences in order to take prompt follow-up actions or seek legal advice on incidents.
