Site of Renji Tsuen Wan Building 130 Water Houses

Yan Chai Hospital intends to construct about 130 water mains and plumbing estates for transitional social housing at the junction of Hoi Hing Road and Tai Wan Street, Tsuen Wan, if the Lands Department grants a five-year short-term tenancy agreement. The number of beneficiaries can reach 500 to 700 people. According to the documents submitted by the Transport Bureau to the Tsuen Wan District Council, the scheme is benefited by families or individuals who have been waiting for public housing for three years or more, or those who are now living in unwell housing and need community support. The Tsuen Wan District is a priority. It is planned to apply to the Lands Department this month for the grant of a short-term land lease at a nominal rent. It will be constructed in the first quarter of next year and will be occupied in the fourth quarter of the same year.

The Transitional Housing Task Force under the Transport Bureau has previously received the Yan Chai Hospital Social Housing Pilot Scheme from Yan Chai Hospital. According to the district board documents, about 110 to 130 circular pipe houses (Opod) and square pipe houses (Boxpod) are planned to be laid on a site of 3,300 square meters. Each pipe house can accommodate 1 to 4 people respectively. It can accommodate a total of about 250 to 350 people. The current use of the site is the open space, close to the waterfront and adjacent to the flyover at Tsuen Wan Road.
