The Government has set aside $5.5 billion to expand the Cyberport in the 2019/20 Budget. According to the Cyberport’s submission to the Southern District Council, it is proposed to build an 11-storey building on the site of about 1.6 hectares of land at the waterfront. With a total floor area of ​​approximately 66,000 square meters, offices and shared workshops will be provided to allow technology companies and start-ups to enter.

The new building will adopt a “stepped” architectural concept. The height of the building will gradually increase from south to north and west to east, and the roof and vertical greening will be introduced. The fifth phase of the Cyberport will add approximately 435,000 square meters of office and shared work space, adding more than 35% of the office space and the floor area of ​​the Smart-Space shared work room to the Cyberport campus. It can accommodate about 100 technology companies. And about 750 start-ups and nurturing companies.

The new building will feature a multi-purpose conference hall for approximately 800 to 1000 people and will be equipped with video conferencing, instant broadcast technology, information and communication technology, etc. The conference hall can also be divided into activities according to the scale of the event. The smaller conference venues each accommodate between 300 and 400 people to meet a wide range of event needs.

The Cyberport also proposes to enhance the environment of the waterfront parks and introduce leisure and smart facilities, including the construction of a waterfront promenade of about 800 metres. The southern end of the waterfront park will be connected to a section of the Harbourfront Corridor which will be used for pets. Infrastructure and services, infrastructure such as smart light poles and 5G connected networks.

The Planning Department is expected to submit amendments to the Town Planning Board before the end of this year and consult the District Boards. The statutory town planning procedures are expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of next year. The Government will then apply to the Finance Committee of the Legislative Council for funding in 2021; Construction began in the fourth quarter of 2021 and was completed as soon as 2024.
