Kwai Chung container terminal variable residential land?

Insufficient land and hard-to-find residential areas in Hong Kong affected housing supply. Former Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Mr Chow Ming-ming, who had participated in the construction of the MTR, earlier proposed to cover the Kwai Chung Container Terminal to build public housing estates, schools or communities estimated at hundreds of thousands people.

Yan Lei Hui: the impact is not willing to cooperate

Huan Lei Hui, chief executive of Hutchison Ports and managing director of Hong Kong International Terminals, believes that there will be no serious impact on getting upstairs from the container terminals. If the government has any idea, they are willing to cooperate.

Yan Lei Hui said that a few decades ago the Group’s real estate department had built a cargo center on the container terminal. At that time, it did not affect its operation. I believe it is not going to have much impact if the container terminal is to be started up today.

Yan Lei Hui said the company will regard the overall situation as the most important thing. If the conception of housing construction does not seriously affect the operation of the terminal, they will be prepared to meet the housing needs of the government and Hong Kong residents.

He believes that it is feasible from a technical perspective to build a house on a container terminal. On the contrary, the proposal to relocate the entire container terminal as a supply of housing land will have a greater impact on the ground floor of the container terminal and greatly affect the operation of the pier. Therefore, not agree.

Zhou Mingquan suggested earlier that discussions between the government and operators on the construction of the superstructure of the container terminal in Kwai Chung will be discussed soon after the removal of the container terminal. He also said that the operation of the container terminal should not be stopped. The whole project could be carried out between 15 and 20 to reduce the impact on the pier.

In addition, Mak Sugit, Honorary Professor of Civil Engineering of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, agrees that both Sunrise Cancun and Ascot Park are “one-for-one and dual-use” examples. This refers to the proximity of the container terminal to urban areas. There are three MTR The station, including Tsing Yi Station to which Pier 9 connects, and Lai King Station and Mei Foo Station are within walking distance. Therefore, it is worth considering.
