Upstairs pavilion mini book exhibition Independent publisher: should not only be like a special store

In the book fair, the readers listened to the soft pure music slowly pacing between the piles of books; in the pile of books, the white TV popular culture and even the enveloped sex niche books are available. Under the parallel of time and space, a “mini book fair” that talks about culture and talks deeply is staged at Fude Building, Wanchai. Many independent publishers lament that the book fair should be an activity to communicate with readers, help the industry, and promote the atmosphere of social learning, rather than just “special market.”

The literary popular cultural minority books are in full. The HKTDC has held book fairs in the exhibition every year since 1990. In recent years, it has attracted about one million people to enter the market, but the quality of criticism has been deteriorating. About 15 independent publishers in Hong Kong, including the “Boiled Fish Culture” and the publication of the Frontier Community, held the “Hong Kong Independent Publishing Mini Book Fair” at the “Yi Yi” Bookstore in Fu Tak House, Wan Chai to provide readers with alternative options.

The readers came to Hong Kong from the Mainland on the previous day and made a special trip to the exhibition book fair. He said that the scene was very crowded and there were best-selling books in major bookstores instead of independent cultural books. After four hours of squeezing, he left. Disappointed, I came to the mini book fair introduced by my friend yesterday. I saw a lot of books in the venue. I also had seats to sit down and read, thinking that this is what the book fair should look like.

Refers to the exhibition bookmakers cut the price to buy a small shop corner

Luo Lemin, executive director of boiled fish culture, said that the exhibition book appeared as a special store, and different booksellers cut prices. The venue was dominated by big booksellers such as three, middle and business, and foreign publishers and small bookstores could only Living in the corner; Hong Kong people seem to read only in July, and even buy a full year of books in July, the whole culture is very weird. She believes that a book fair should be versatile, to communicate with readers, and to let book publishers talk about each other.

Luo Lemin once participated in the Taipei Book Fair. She said that the next year, the world’s oldest book fair organizers will be invited to share and organize training workshops, leaving an important position to local independent publishers every year.

Tan Yingshi, editor of the “Post-Words Studio” of the independent publishing house, said that the venue of the Taipei Book Fair is only two-thirds of the Hong Kong Book Fair. This year’s theme country is Israel. The booth is located in the middle of the venue for the country to introduce its history, culture and books. The entire planning arrangement is very good.

Refers to the Taipei Book Fair to sponsor independent booksellers

Another independent publishing director, “dirty press”, Zhang Xiaoming, who is involved in the planning of this mini-book fair, said that the more important function of the book fair is “exhibition”, which provides exhibitors with opportunities for exhibitions. However, it is expensive for book fairs in Hong Kong. A small stall requires tens of thousands of dollars, which is difficult for independent publishers to pay, but the Taipei Book Fair sponsors independent publishers to offer them discounts. The literary commentary magazine SAMPLE editor Yan Xinghua further explained that the magazine published a book on the floor through a publisher last year, selling nearly 100 books a week, and only sold about 10 books a week, the book fair allowed them to reach many new readers.

At present, the “Mini Book Fair” has new books and magazines from various publishers. The selection of books ranges from literary books to popular culture to small-sized books with envelopes. Each new book has handwritten notes, the author and The book content, and invited the Secretary-General of the Taiwan Independent Publishing Union, Chen Xiamin, to come to Hong Kong to talk about the publishing industry and become an ideal small world for independent publishers in Hong Kong.

Zhang Xiaoming said that as a business organization, the TDC is talking about a lot of people and figures, but it ignores culture. Their mini book fair is another option for readers in parallel time and space. I hope that future book fairs can be handed over to institutions responsible for culture. , as the ADC has done to promote the overall reading culture of Hong Kong
