Kwun Tong Town Centre has been transformed since its rebuilding eight years ago
The Kaihui site is part of the urban renewal project of the Kwun Tong Town Centre and is the main catalyst for the transformation of the old district of Kwun Tong. The project was proposed by the URA’s predecessor Land Development Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “Tufa"). In the five development zones, after 20 years, there are still two development zones that have not been tendered. The URA expects that the entire development project is expected to be completed in 2026, that is, eight years later.
The Kwun Tong Town Centre Redevelopment Project, which covers an area of about 5.35 hectares, is located at Kwun Tong Road, Kwai Wo Street, Yue Wah Street, Wu Wah Street and Wan Ning Road. It was proposed by the Land Development Corporation in 1998 and was not implemented until March 2007. The establishment of the bureau has become the largest project ever undertaken by the bureau. The total floor area is about 4.319 million square meters and is divided into five development zones. The first three development zones were developed by Xinzhi (00083), including the first development zone that was awarded in 2009, which was completed in 2014. Commercial development zone bidding later
The fourth and fifth development areas at Kwun Tong Road are the commercial focus of the whole project. The tender for the URA has yet to be launched. The fourth development area at the junction of Kwun Tong Road and Hip Wo Street will be built. Landmark buildings with a height of 285 meters (above the main level) provide retail, office and hotel use, and a viewing platform on the top floor.
The fifth development zone at the junction of Wing Ning Road and Kwun Tong Road has been plagued by more than 100 illegal occupants in the site. The URA has rarely issued compassionate compensation in recent months. Finally, 91 stalls have accepted The URA is expected to request the government to start the land resumption process as soon as the end of this year. The site is intended to build a ten-storey building for retail and government office use, and the property will be added to the egg-shaped design required by the area. The URA said that the fourth and fifth development zones were temporarily completed in 2026, which means that the entire plan will be completed and completed, and it will take about 28 years.
