Land Group: Science and Technology Progress

The Land Supply Task Force launched a public consultation for about three months. The members of the group attended the radio programme earlier to brief the public on the options for reclamation and East Lantau and listen to the views of the audience.

The Deputy Chairman of the Land Supply Task Force, Mr Wong, and the members of the group, Wang Kun and MacKay, said that after three months of consultation, the public had a certain understanding of the land options. I hope that in the next two months, the public will be more actively involved in the telephone survey. , make more comments.

The group hopes that the public will respond positively

The focus of the programme discussion was on reclamation and the development of the East Lantau City outside the Victoria Harbour. The Vice-Chairman of the Sub-committee, Mr Wong Ze-yan, pointed out that many people felt that the reclamation would cause pollution to the environment. In fact, due to the undeveloped technology in the past, it often turned the mud on the seabed and caused pollution.

At present, with the advancement of science and technology, the method of reclamation has also changed to a non-excavation method, which causes less pollution to the ocean. Moreover, in the reclamation of Hong Kong, it is first necessary to conduct a feasibility study on the plan and assess the damage to the surrounding environment.

Reclamation requires a feasible study

As regards the East Lantau Metro Development Plan, it is proposed to fill about 1,000 hectares of land on Lantau Island. It will provide a large new town with a capacity of 400,000 to 700000 people and about 200000 jobs.

Members of the group said that the public may be misunderstood that the search for land is not necessarily for housing. Apart from housing problems, the commercial areas are concentrated in Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. In the future, commercial buildings will be built again. The development of the East Lantau will be a comprehensive development. Development is like a smart city that can add more development space to Hong Kong.

The public calls to express their views on the above-mentioned methods of defamation. Mr. Liu, a resident of Lung Kwu Tan, opposes any reclamation that would affect the residential areas. He believes that the members of the group should conduct site visits, but if the schemes such as the East Lantau do not affect the residential areas, stand by. In addition, Mr. Kwok, the public, proposed that the planning for the development of the East Lantau City should be clearly planned. For example, there should be a commercial area, a residential area near Mui Wo, a low-density residential area in Shek Kwu Chau, and a traffic package. Three new passages to and from the city. He pointed out that the population should go from south to north. It is believed that the site of reclamation should be in the waters of Pengzhou, Shiguzhou and Heilingzhou.
