Gloucester Road Garden proposed food market

Surrounded by mansions and government buildings, Gloucester Road, Wan Chai, many commuters must pass through every day. At a rapid pace, have you ever thought of the garden becoming a community fair with handicrafts and food? The Hong Kong Council of Social Service and the St James Group, based in Wan Chai, have partnered with the LCSD to organize a “Peoples Food Market” at Gloucester Road Garden, Wan Chai, from 12 noon to 6 pm on July 7 (Thursday) Convenient for office workers and residents in the neighborhood, but also provides opportunities for grassroots residents to earn income.

Show their own handmade products

The organizers submitted documents to the district boards that they planned to reach the goal of “restoring regional sentiments, encouraging cross-boundary creativity, creating eco-friendly markets and promoting healthy living” with new markets.

In restoring regional sentiments, it is proposed that some handicraftsmen in the district be market stall owners to display their own home-made delicacies and handmade products. To encourage cross-boundary creativity, there will be planners planning venues to make full use of space and design safe passageways. Collaborators are also working with designers to design food stalls as stalls to enhance the market atmosphere and characteristics. The stalls also sell fresh vegetable bag and seasonal soup, easy to buy office workers to go home.

In March 2015, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) set up a market-oriented policy to encourage all districts to develop community marketplaces in a district-led and bottom-up mode to make good use of unused space and to set a new outlet for the community economy in the district.
