Co-working space creates designer base Xu Teng and his sons are founded

Although WeWork, a U.S. shared office operator, has recently been in trouble, the shared workspace is objectively a good way to reduce rental costs

Well-known architect Xu Teng and his son founded the shared design studio “THE Design”, which will be located in Shatin Industrial Center, covering an area of 25,000 square feet. They are all designed for designers, providing a cheap rent and creative design base for young local designers.

T.H.E Design designers were co-founded by Xu Teng, the founder of Comprehensive Architectural Design Co., Ltd. and his son Xu Da. Xu Teng is a well-known Hong Kong architect. He has worked for the British construction company Foster + Partners for nearly 20 years. During this time, he participated in the design of the Mactan Cebu International Airport Passenger Terminal 2 and London Stansted Airport. , And many large projects such as the Hong Kong New Airport.

Xu Teng decided to leave and start a business in 1999. He laughed that when he founded IDA, he was 45 years old. Although it started late, it has rich industry experience and network resources, and has many favorable conditions. However, the road to entrepreneurship is still difficult, and you need to learn to run a company from scratch, such as financial management and marketing. About a year and a half ago, during a chat with his son Xu Da, he learned that today’s young people lack sufficient support for entrepreneurship, so they set out to establish a shared working space to help Hong Kong’s creative industry develop.

T.H.E Design designers will open this Saturday. In addition to IDA, environmental equipment and supplies company AET Flexible Space has also been leased.

Hardware equipment needs

In order to meet the needs of designers, THE Design designers provide mobile seats, fixed desks, semi-detached offices and independent offices, not to mention the use of larger desks to facilitate the placement of design drawings; the use of overhead lighting settings to reduce Shadows are generated; there are event venues, projection devices, A0 drawing printers, and high-pixel scanners that can display works, and equipment such as 3D printers and large-pixel photo printers will be provided one after another.

After half a year of on-site inspections, Xu Teng finally chose Shatin, New Territories. He explained that Shatin is located in the central hinterland of Hong Kong. After the opening of the Shatin Central Line, he believes that the area will become an important transportation hub. In addition, the Science Park is also located in Shatian. The park has close links with high-tech companies in the Greater Bay Area. In addition, Shatian is closer to a factory in Shenzhen to facilitate the production of prototypes and production.

Different from most competitors in the market, THE Design designers provide a lot of additional services and guidance, such as facilitating designers and design startups to cooperate with large enterprises, and will share lectures of design companies’ operations through seminars and invite local design Teachers hold exhibitions to increase exposure.

Xu Teng continued that the factory buildings in Shatian are different from industrial areas such as San Po Kong, Jiulong Bay, Chai Wan, etc. The density and height of the buildings are relatively low. Even indoors, they can be exposed to the sun and even watch the mountains. Jan landscape. He said with a smile that there is a perfect cycling track in Shatian, which makes it easy for designers to work around.

Different from WeWork positioning

Recently, it was rumored that WeWork, a US shared office operator, would reduce its Hong Kong business. When asked if he was worried that the shared workplace market would be saturated, Xu Da admitted that he was not worried because the positioning of the two parties was different. He emphasized that it aims to build an ecosystem of mutual assistance and mutual integration, so that the synergy between members can make the entire community flourish.
