EAC submits district election report within three months EAC Chairman Feng Min said in a meeting with the media yesterday morning that he would review the election arrangements in detail and submit an election report to the Chief Executive within three months. Feng Jun said that the election of the district council encountered unprecedented challenges and was successfully completed in a very difficult environment.

As of 10.30 a.m. the night before, the EAC, the Returning Officer and the polling director had received a total of 7,460 complaints, about 2,000 involving voting arrangements, about 1,200 involving election advertisements, and about 500 involving canvassing activities

When asked about the arrangements for the questionable ballots by the Returning Officer, Feng Ye pointed out that the law has clear rules for questionable ballots, and in most cases it will be based on the voters’ intentions. For example, he pointed out that if the voter covers the tick mark outside the designated circle, but the intention is clear, the ballot paper will also be considered valid. As for the extra mark on the ballot paper, it depends on the reasons behind it. Feng Ye emphasized that anyone who has doubts about the election results can file an election petition.

The counting of votes for the 452 constituencies in the 2019 District Council general election took 13 hours to complete. It ended at 12.25 noon yesterday, counting about 2.94 million votes.
